3 Ways to Surround Yourself in the Colors of Autumn
Not only do the cooler temperatures of fall signal the end of summer, but these conditions also help trees take on golden and red hues. Peak season can vary year-to-year, so we recommend finding some sort of foliage report or map to determine when to plan your visit.
Once you’ve figured out when to visit, it’s time to decide where to look. There are several incredible places to go leaf peeping, but here are three of our favorites.
- One of the best nearby places to take in the foliage is Yankee Springs Recreation Center. The 5,200-acre state park has several tree-lined trails, like the Yankee Spring-Chief Noonday Trail or Yankee Springs-Sassafras Nature Trail. Other things to do here include kayaking and horseback riding.
- There are several nature preserves within a short distance away. Visit the old-growth forest found in the George P. Tilma Nature Preserve, or walk along a trail at the Dolan Nature Sanctuary or Bow in the Clouds Preserve.
- Fort Custer State Park is another fantastic option. Located in nearby Augusta on over 3,000 acres, there is no shortage of activities to enjoy. Go for a ride along the 14-mile equestrian trail, or take the leaves blurring past you as you cycle along the four-mile Blue Trail.
